Press the <F12> key
on Dell Logo and then in the One Time Boot Menu Select CD/DVD drive.
Boot
from the Windows Vista CD
To
begin the Windows Vista clean install process, you will need to boot from the
Windows Vista CD. Watch for a Press any key to boot from CD... message similar
to the one shown in the screenshot.
Step 2: Windows
will load files, this may take some time so be patient.
Step 3: The
Windows Vista install will begin to load.
Step 4: Some of these stages can take quite
sometimes so be patient. Now select your install Language, plus keyboard
type, once you are happy with the settings, Click on "NEXT" to
continue.
Step 5: From
the next screen click on "Install Now" to continue. Windows will
begin to carry out some processes.
Step 6: Now
the License terms: Read and confirm that you accept the License by selecting
the box on the bottom left of the screen. Once done click next to
continue.
Step 7: Now
you will asked the type of installation you wish to do. Click on
"Custom" to continue.
Step 8: Next
you will select the location of the previous install. Disk 0, Partition 1 in
our example below. Click on the drive. Now select the "DRIVE OPTIONS
(Advanced)" by clicking on it.
Step 9: Select
"DELETE"....
Step 10: A
warning about the loss of all data will appear, if you have backed up and don't
need the data then press "OK" otherwise press cancel and backup your
data before continuing. Please wait while your hard drive is deleted.
Step 11: The
drive will now be listed as "Unallocated Space. You may continue by just
pressing "NEXT", Vista will use all available space (Move onto next
section), or click on "NEW" to configure the drive yourself.
Step 12: If
you are happy using all the available space then just click apply, otherwise
delete the digits in the box (97.7 GB or 99998 MB as seen below), why the sizes
are different is another story.........
Step 13: The
new drive will be called "Partition 1", the remaining space
"Unallocated".....
Step 14: Now
click on "Format". The Format will take a few moments, once complete
click on "NEXT" to continue.
Step 15: Windows
now copies files:
Step 16: Windows
expands the files:
Step 17: Windows
is installing features:
Step 18: Windows
is installing updates:
Step 19: Windows is doing a restart: It will do
this automatically if you are not about, otherwise you can click "Restart
Now" to speed things up slightly.
Step 20: The
computer reboots. You may also get this message "Press any key to boot
from CD or DVD..", do not press and key and allow this to pass.
Step 21: Windows
continues Loading:
Step 22: Windows
is now booting for the first time, don't be fooled there could still be a few
reboots and quite a bit of installing to go.
Step 23: Windows
continues to install. Windows does more updating and installing.
Step 24: Windows
reboots a few more times and then finally Input your Username for the computers
Administrator account and the Password. If you change the image it will change
as per below. Once done click "NEXT" to continue.
Step 25: Now
choose a computer name (Mainly used for ID on a network), and select a
different background image if you wish. If you change the background it will
change as per below. Click "NEXT" to continue.
Step 26: Next
you need to check the time zone is correct and also the time and date.
Step 27: Now
select your Windows protection method. We recommend the top option "Use
Recommended settings", click on your selection to continue.
Step 28: That
is all the information gathered that is needed, Windows Install will thank you,
click on "START" to continue....
Step 29: and
begin to load.
Step 30: Now
the Windows "LOGIN" screen. Type in your password and click on the
arrow (Or press "ENTER") to continue.
Step 31: Windows
"WELCOMES" you. Windows now "PREPARES THE DESKTOP". Windows
desktop appears and the stages of the install begin. Several personalized
settings will be installed. The desktop will soon appear.
